Lectures

Long term care and aging. Achievements and challenges.

This lecture was delivered by Doctor Edward Norton, Associate Professor of Health Policy and Administration, with a particular interest in the economic impact on health policies of long-term treatment of the elderly. He has published numerous articles in the Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, Review of Income and Wealth, and Journal of the American Medical Association. The lecture was given within the framework of the 5th World Congress of the International Health Economics Association, held in Barcelona from 10 to 13 July 2005.

The follow-up session discussed economic issues relating to long-term care and increasing longevity. In particular, it considered the following questions: What is the best way of improving the quality of nursing care in the home? Will longevity inevitably increase health expenditure at the end of life? What is the main financial concern of elderly people?.
