VIII Research Prize 2006
For the best completed work, whether published or not, dealing with issues in the field of bioethics.

There were nineteen submissions for the research prize, worth €6,000, which this year was awarded to:

Daniel Soutullo España, professor of Biology at the Instituto Monte da Vila de O Grove in Pontevedra and his book Biología, cultura y ética. Crítica de la sociobiología humana (Biology, culture and ethics. A critique of human sociobiology).

In his prize-winning work, Daniel Soutullo analyzes the importance of biology in human affairs. The author develops a far-reaching criticism of sociobiology, a theory which explains human social behaviour through biology, beginning with the original theory and continuing through recent developments. The relationship between biological evolution, cultural change and the development of moral conduct as a distinctive human characteristic are the focus of this investigation.
