Postgraduate course on Planning Advanced Decisions (PAD)

November to June, Barcelona

The Chairs of Bioethics and Palliative Care at UVIC have organized a postgraduate course on Planning Advanced Decisions (PAD) in people with advanced, chronic diseases. The course is designed to train professionals in the implementation of PAD, a key tool in care models for the chronically ill.

PAD is a methodological approach that seeks to help people express their values, wishes and preferences to care professionals with regard to decisions about their illness, particularly at times when people lose the capacity to express their wishes for themselves. Studies have identified a number of benefits of the PAD process for patients, although there are also a number of barriers to its implementation.

This postgraduate course aims to raise awareness among health professionals of the importance of PAD as part of the care process, facilitating the development of the communication skills and attitudes required to implement the PAD process successfully, and providing the knowledge and skills needed to collect and record information for PAD.
