Patients waiting (premi)

Patients waiting

30 minuts, Televisió de Catalunya

30 minuts team

Prize awarded to the programme 30 minuts by TV3 for the report "Pacients en espera" (Patients waiting) broadcast on 1 June 2014.

This report analyzes the predicament of thousands of Catalan patients who are on a waiting list for a transplant organ. Austerity policies have increased the waiting time beyond the maximum of six months established by law, while there are no time limits for other, less common operations. The programme uses the stories of six of these patients to analyze the situation in the public health service in Catalonia.

To the television documentary "Zeladors" (Orderlies), directed by Raquel Cors and broadcast by Spanish national television (TVE) on April 10, 2010 in the program "Gran Angular" (The Wide Angle).

The time spent waiting at the hospital, or on a patient's personal hygiene are everyday aspects of hospital life; however for the patient and their families these may be extremely delicate moments.  This is why an orderly who knows how to provide good company, to distract and even amuse a patient, is extremely important.    This report is about such healthcare professionals who work behind the scenes and their relationship with the patients.

Decision to die

30 minuts
Televisió de Catalunya

To the programme 30 minuts by Televisió de Catalunya  titled: "Decidir la mort" (Decision to die),  broadcast on 4th October 2009.

Over the past few years there has been a slow trickle of cases of euthanasia, be these assisted suicides, (Ramón Sampedro) or straightforward requests for artificial life support mechanisms to be withdrawn (Inmaculada Echevarría and Eluana Englaro).

In each and every case an ardent debate opens between those in favor and those against regulating euthanasia, apart from the debate, a lot of confusion is usually generated.  The documentary, "Decidir la mort", discusses the right to decide how and when to die through the testimonies given by three people suffering from degenerative and incurable illnesses.
