The Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation was founded in March 1998 under the auspices of Grifols, a holding company dedicated to the pharmaceutical-hospital sector. The Foundation is dedicated to promoting the study and development of bioethics in human health in general and in the pharmaceutical industry in particular.

What makes this initiative particularly innovative is the fact that it is the result of a pharmaceutical company devoting resources to the investigation of ethical issues arising in the work of a range of organizations and individuals in the field of health.

The Foundation is registered in the Government of Catalonia Register of Foundations' (number 1.271). The headquarters are housed in the same building as the Grifols Museum :
