Participation in document on ethical decisions in health emergencies

It includes recommendations for intensive care units (ICU)

The Grifols Foundation Chair of Bioethics, working in partnership with the C3RG research group and the Chair of Palliative Care at UVIC-UCC, has helped draw up a document containing recommendations for intensive care units (ICU) with respect to difficult ethical decisions in emergency situations, such as those arising from the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The document, drafted by the ethics group of the Spanish Intensive Medicine Society (Semicyuc), has been approved by 18 scientific societies and other bioethics institutions. The issues it addresses include ethics in decision-making, prioritization, the principle of proportionality, and transparency, and it is designed to be a tool to assist health professionals and institutions in Spain at a time when the system is under severe stress.
