73. Salud mental y sociedad: ¿una nueva pandemia?
(Mental health and society: a new pandemic?)
Mental health is a key dimension of overall health and personal well‑being, as well as a structural pillar of a society’s social, cultural, and economic progress. It is a highly sensitive indicator of the growing impact of economic crises, epidemics, climate change, and related disasters. Nevertheless, the stigma associated with having a mental disorder, and the discrimination it generates, are still very present in many areas of life.
Particularly concerning is the increase in psychological distress among adolescents and young people, who are exposed to enormous psychosocial pressures and contradictions precisely during an extremely vulnerable stage of their development. In this context, the book also reflects on the phenomenon of suicide, especially within this group, as well as the serious consequences it has for the people around them.
