Professor of Molecular Medicine at the University of Leicester and Director of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the UOC

Salvador Macip holds a PhD in Medicine from the University of Barcelona and has built an international career in biomedical research, with postdoctoral and teaching appointments at institutions such as the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and the University of Leicester, where he currently serves as Head of the Department of Molecular Medicine.

 

He has also led research groups at the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute and, since 2025, at the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center. He has received several competitive research grants from programs such as the Catalan Broadcasting Network TV3's La Marató [a telethon supporting research] and the ISCIII Health Research Funds, and has authored more than sixty peer-reviewed scientific publications.

 

Beyond his academic work, he has been active in scientific outreach and bioethical thought. His book Jugar a ser dioses (Playing at Being Gods), which received the University of Valencia’s European Prize for Scientific Communication (General Works) examines the ethical challenges of genetic manipulation, cloning, and regenerative medicine. He is the author of over forty books—ranging from essays and novels to children’s literature—and is a regular contributor to media outlets such as El Periódico.
