The Board of Trustees
The principal governing body of the Foundation is responsible for representing, governing and administering the Foundation. One of its main functions is to represent the Foundation in events and contracts, and to draw up its program of events. It is comprised of members who are recognized for their achievements in different areas of study and research in bioethics:

Emeritus Professor of Moral Philosophy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona
Her professional career included a period as a member of the Audiovisual Council of Catalonia from 2002 to 2008, and she was chairperson of the Commission for Television Content from 1993 to 1996, a period during which she was an independent senator for the socialist party of Catalonia and Spain, the PSC-PSOE.
Victòria Camps has published numerous essays on ethics, political philosophy and bioethics. These include Virtudes públicas (Public virtues) (Espasa Prize for Non-fiction), Una vida de calidad [A quality life], La voluntad de vivir (The will to live) and Creure en l'educació (Believing in education). Her most recent books are: El gobierno de las emociones (Managing the emotions) (National Non-fiction Prize), Breve historia de la ética (A brief history of ethics), Elogio de la duda (In praise of doubt), La fragilidad de una ética liberal (The fragility of a liberal ethics) and La búsqueda de la felicidad (The search for happiness).
Victòria Camps' professional achievements have been recognized with the Josep Maria Lladó Prize for freedom of expression in 1999; the Prize for Achievements in Education, awarded by the Regional Government of Andalucía in 1999; and the Menéndez Pelayo International Prize in 2008. She holds honorary doctorates from the universities of Huelva and Salamanca. In 2018 she was appointed Permanent Advisor to the State.

Nurse, member of the Professional Ethics Committee of the College of Nurses of Barcelona
Montse Busquets is a nurse, with a Master in Bioethics and Law, a degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology, and a PhD in Sociology. She spent most of her professional career as a lecturer at the School of Nursing at the University of Barcelona, and retired in 2017. She worked as a care nurse at Ciudad Sanitaria Valle de Hebrón, and taught at the Príncipes de España University School of Nursing at the Catalan Health Institute, and with the UNED (Spain's National Distance Learning University).
She was co-director of postgraduate teaching in Palliative Care from 2006 to 2017. She has a longstanding interest in the professional ethics of nursing and in bioethics, both in work and in education. She has worked with numerous organizations active in the field of health ethics.
She is a member of the Professional Ethics Committee of the College of Nurses of Barcelona, of the Bioethics Committee of Catalonia, and of the Bioethics and Law Association of the Bioethics Observatory of the University of Barcelona.

Lawyer at Osborne Clarke
Ignacio Calero is a lawyer who specializes in company and contract consultancy. He is a member of the Board of Trustees, and acts as legal secretary to the governing bodies of several foundations within the health and life sciences sector.
He graduated in Law in 2000 from the Autonomous University of Madrid, and completed a Master's in Corporate Legal Consultancy at IE Business School in 2003. He is a member of the College of Lawyers of Barcelona.

Xavier Carné is a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a specialist in Clinical Pharmacology. Since 2003 he worked as Head of Clinical Pharmacology at the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona and he also was a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology at the University of Barcelona since 2007. Currently he is retired.
He advises a number of organizations, and is active in research. He is a member of the Pharmacotherapy Committee for outpatient dispensing of hospital drugs at CatSalut, member of the Bioethics Committee of Catalonia, member of the National Committee on Clinical Pharmacology of the Spanish Ministry of Health, and President of the Capacity Building Working Group at ECRIN.
During his professional career, he has delivered more than 130 lectures at congresses, and he has published more than 80 original articles and reviews in indexed medical journals and more than 40 articles in books or chapters of books.

Former Director of Clinical Research at the Campus for International Excellence, Autonomous University of Madrid
Rafael Dal-Ré holds a PhD in Medicine from the Complutense University, Madrid, and a Master in Public Health from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He has worked primarily in the pharmaceutical industry, and for more than 25 years was medical department director for various multinational companies.
From 2010 to 2013 he was first director and then scientific advisor to the Clinical Research Programme of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation in Barcelona. From 2014 to 2016 he was director of clinical research at the BUC programme (Biosciences UAM+CSIC), Centre for International Excellence, Autonomous University of Madrid. From 1998 to 2010 he was a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom. He was also a member of the National Pharmacovigilance Commission of Spain's Department of Health from 1993 to 1996.
He is the author of more than 200 articles published in both Spanish and international journals, over 40 of which relate to aspects of bioethics in clinical research, and scientific integrity.

Begoña Román Maestre holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Barcelona, and is currently a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Barcelona.
Between 1996 and 2007 she held the Chair in Ethics at the Ramon Llull University. She is a member of the well-established research group funded by the Government of Catalonia, "Aporia: Contemporary Philosophy, ethics and politics".
Her area of expertise is applied ethics, which she teaches in several masters and postgraduate programs.
She is the Chair of the Catalan Social Services Ethics Committee, and is a member of the Bioethics Committee of Catalonia and of the primary healthcare ethics committee of the Catalan Health Institute, and is a member of the clinical ethics committees at the Hospital Clinic (Barcelona) and at the Hospital San Rafael (Madrid).

Journalist at El País newspaper
She has been with Spain's leading daily newspaper, El País, since 1982, where she has been senior editor of the paper's Catalonia and Opinion sections, and was reader's editor from 2009 to 2012. She currently writes articles and editorial columns. She is also an interviewer on Terrícoles, produced by Barcelona TV channel Betevé, and appears as a political analyst on a number of programmes, including Hora 25 on Cadena Ser, els Matins on TV3, El Matí on Catalunya Radio, and Vespres on Spanish national broadcaster TVE2.
She was a member of the Bioethics Committee of Catalonia for eight years, and is currently on the Public Health Advisory Board, and is a member of the board of Pompeu Fabra University.
She has won a number of awards, including the Government of Catalonia's National Culture Prize for Journalism, the Grifols Prize for Bioethics, and Barcelona City Council's Social Well-being Award. She also received the Josep Trueta Medal for contributions to health, from the Government of Catalonia.

Director of National Centre for Cancer Research (CNIO) and Head of Telomeres and Telomerase Group
Maria Blasco has a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the "Severo Ochoa" Centre for Molecular Biology, and is a specialist in telomeres and telomerase. In 1993 she moved to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York, where she joined the laboratory led by Carol W. Greider. She returned to Spain in 1997 to set up her own research group at the National Biotechnology Centre (CSIC; Madrid). In 2003 she moved to the National Centre for Cancer Research (CNIO, Madrid) as Director of the Molecular oncology Service and and Head of the Telomeres and Telomerase Group. In 2005 she was appointed Assistant Director of Basic Research at CNIO, and in June 2011 she was named Director of the CNIO.
For more than 20 years, Blasco's work has focused on demonstrating the importance of telomeres and telomerase in cancer and in diseases related to ageing. Blasco received the Award for Scientific Merit from the Regional Government of Valencia in In October 2017, and has been awarded three Honorary Doctorates: from Carlos III University, Madrid, from the University of Alicante and, most recently, from the University of Murcia.

Catedràtica en Dret Penal
És Catedràtica en Dret Penal a la Universitat de les Illes Balears, llicenciada i doctora en dret per la Universitat Autònoma de Madrid. Ha realitzat part dels seus estudis doctorals al Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Strafrecht de Freiburg i és membre del Comitè d'Ètica assistencial de l'Hospital Universitari Son Espases de Palma de Mallorca.
Com a investigadora, entre les seves línies de recerca cal destacar la referida a qüestions bioètiques, plasmada tant en llibres sobre la eutanàsia i el suïcidi assistit, així com en articles sobre l'avortament, la intimitat de les dades sanitàries, l'ús del concepte de dignitat humana i les seves aplicacions jurídiques en bioètica, entre molts altres.
És membre del Patronat de la Fundació Coloquio Jurídico Europeo des de la seva creació, i també ho fou del Consell de Redacció de la Revista Humanitas (editada per la Fundación Medicina y Humanidades Médicas) fins a la finalització de la revista. Ha estat membre del Comitè d'Ètica Assistencial de l'Hospital Clínic Universitari de València durant 12 anys (fins el juny de 2015).

Catedràtic de Cirurgia jubilat
El professor Sitges s'ha dedicat a la docència i recerca dels principis bàsics de la cirurgia i la cirurgia endocrina, amb cinc sexennis com a investigador reconeguts pel Ministeri d'Educació i més de 400 articles científics publicats. Llicenciat en medicina a la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, va realitzar l'especialització en cirurgia general a l'Hospital de Bellvitge i posteriorment a Newcastle, Lió i Minneapolis.
Ha estat nomenat com editor associat i conseller del British Journal of Surgery, distingit com a membre honorari de l'Académie Française de Chirurgie i Fellowship 2012 de la Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland per la seva contribució en la reflexió sobre ètica i sostenibilitat aplicades a la cirurgia.
Fins la seva jubilació, el desembre de 2019, va ser Catedràtic de Cirurgia de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona i Cap del Departament de Cirurgia Endocrina de l'Hospital del Mar. És Fellow honorari del Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, expresident de la Societat Catalana de Cirurgia, de la qual va rebre el Premi Virgili el 2014, i expresident de la European Society of Endocrine Surgeons.

Professor universitari, investigador i metge especialista en diabetis
Graduat en medicina al seu país natal (Perú), el doctor Montori és professor universitari, investigador i metge especialista en diabetis a la Clínica Mayo dels Estats Units, on és l'investigador principal de la Unitat de Recerca d'Avaluació i Coneixement (KER).
Al llarg de la seva carrera, s'ha preocupat per la relació entre metge i pacient, considerant que el més valuós és garantir una atenció adequada, curosa i atenta. Aquesta mirada es veu plasmada en el seu llibre "La rebel·lió dels pacients" (The Patient Revolution), que és una crida a abandonar la medicina excessivament industrialitzada actual. Les reflexions d'aquest llibre el van impulsar a crear el 2016 l'organització sense ànim de lucre The Patient Revolution.
Entre el 2012 i 2015 va ser membre del Council for Healthcare Research and Quality to de U.S. i del Departament of Health and Human Services. Actualment és membre del consell editorial del British Medical Association des del 2021 i de la direcció del Decision Aids Satandards Collaboration des del 2009.

Secretarial and Administrative Services Manager
Silvia has extensive experience of administrative management in the field of bioethics. For over 20 years she was Secretarial Manager at the Borja Institute of Bioethics (Ramon Llull University), where her duties included organizing training activities, workshops and conferences, supervising the publishing program, maintaining the accounts, and monitoring budgets. In June 2015 she joined the team of the Foundation as Secretarial and Administrative Manager. She is also responsible for coordinating training activities for health professionals, and for events logistics.

Maria holds a journalism degree, with a specialization in business communications. She has pursued a career in the pharmaceutical and health sectors, where her previous employers include Sandoz and the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.
In 2008 she joined the communications department of Grifols, and started working with the Foundation on communication projects, events organization and publications. Since 2013 she has been the Foundation's project coordinator.

Assistent de projectes
Graduat en Filosofia per la Universitat de Girona, va estudiar el Màster en Ciutadania i Drets Humans a la Universitat de Barcelona per especialitzar-se en Bioètica. Ha format part del CEA del Parc Sanitari de Sant Joan de Déu i del departament de Documentació i Debat del CCCB. Actualment està fent el doctorat sobre l'ètica en la intel·ligència artificial.
L'octubre de 2018 va incorporar-se a la fundació com a becari per donar suport a la coordinació de projectes. Un cop finalitzada la beca al setembre de 2019 va ser contractat com a Assistent de Projectes, càrrec des d'on desenvolupa diverses tasques relacionades amb l'organització d'actes i la gestió de continguts per la web i les xarxes socials.
