Improving the human brain: what can we improve and what do we want to improve?
27 April
New lecture in the cycle organized with Barcelona Friends of UNESCO to discuss bioethical issues. Neurologist and bioethics expert, Bernabé Robles del Olmo, reflected on the limits of improvement to the brain.
The welfare state and the dominant competitive social paradigm have made "brain enhancement" a focus of interest in numerous fields (military, academic, industrial, management. etc.). But is it really possible to intensify brain function in this way? If such techniques or treatments were to be introduced, this would be accompanied by a series of ethical and social challenges. These will be analysed in this lecture.
Bernabé Robles, neurologist at the Sant Joan de Déu Health Park and lecturer in Bioethics and Neurology at the University of Vic, is the author of numerous publications on the brain and technology, and is a member of the Bioethics Committee of Catalonia and of the Ethics Committee of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
