On 25 June, 2021, Spain’s Organic Law 3/2021 on the Regulation of Euthanasia (LORE) came into force, making Spain the fourth European country to decriminalise both euthanasia and assisted suicide. As we approach the four-year anniversary of its coming into effect, we take this opportunity to reflect on its implementation and assess the progress made.

The management of requests for assisted dying in each Autonomous Community, the role of the Commissions of Guarantees (committees that assess each case), the challenges faced by professionals, the interpretation of the law, and judicial involvement all present significant issues. Drawing on four years of experience, this webinar examines each challenge in turn:

The LORE in numbers and the realities its implementation across the territory

  • Albert Tuca. Medical oncologist. Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. UB-Clínic Chair of Palliative Care. President of the Euthanasia Guarantees Commission of Catalonia

Professional challenges in managing euthanasia requests

  • Albert Planes. Family Physician, ICS. Member of the Ethics Group of the Catalan Society of Family Medicine. Member of the Guarantees Commission of Catalonia.

Legal gaps in the law and challenges in its interpretation

  • Nuria Terribas. Jurist, Director of Fundació Víctor Grífols i Lucas

We have organised this hybrid event to allow participants to join either in-person at our headquarters or online via Microsoft Teams.

The top representatives of the Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation are featured on the Forbes list.

Victòria Camps, president of the Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation, and Núria Terribas, director of the same organization, have been included in the 2025 ranking of the 100 most influential women in Catalonia, compiled by Forbes magazine.

The selection covers all areas of influence in Catalonia, offering a comprehensive view of the business, political, social, cultural, artistic, and sports landscape. The selection process is carried out by a committee of experts and external consultants from Forbes, a publication specializing in business and finance, also known for its renowned rankings of prominent global figures.

Mental health is a fundamental component of overall health and individual well-being, and for that reason, it is also a structural pillar of social, cultural, and economic progress in society. It is also a highly sensitive indicator of the growing impact of economic crises, epidemics, climate change, and social inequalities.

On July 1st, we aim to reflect on mental health, with a special focus on its effects on society, the stigma it carries, and the phenomenon of suicide.
