Xavier Carné is a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a specialist in Clinical Pharmacology. Since 2003 he worked as Head of Clinical Pharmacology at the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona and he also was a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology at the University of Barcelona since 2007. Currently he is retired.

He advises a number of organizations, and is active in research. He is a member of the Pharmacotherapy Committee for outpatient dispensing of hospital drugs at CatSalut, member of the Bioethics Committee of Catalonia, member of the National Committee on Clinical Pharmacology of the Spanish Ministry of Health, and President of the Capacity Building Working Group at ECRIN.

During his professional career, he has delivered more than 130 lectures at congresses, and he has published more than 80 original articles and reviews in indexed medical journals and more than 40 articles in books or chapters of books.
