What direction should humanity take?
7 May at 10:00 a.m
Bringing bioethics into the classroom —particularly for students in the upper years of secondary school and Baccalaureate levels— is essential. On the one hand, it involves integrating ethical reflection into subjects already included in their curriculum—such as biology or biomedicine—and encouraging students to explore these issues further in their research work. On the other hand, it is equally important to foster a basic understanding of, and discussion around, issues that are part of everyday life. As these students become part of society, a critical mindset and independent judgement will be essential.
This is why Amics per a la Unesco Barcelona and the Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation have launched a new initiative to educate students and teachers about these topics. In this case, a dual-format activity is proposed, with one session designed for students and another for teachers.
Student Session: led by Salvador Macip, doctor, writer and science communicator, this activity will explore topics such as gene editing, synthetic biology and transhumanism.
Teacher Session: led by Carlos Giménez, biologist and secondary school teacher at Colegio San Gabriel in Viladecans, this workshop will provide teachers with strategies for incorporating bioethics into lesson plans through various classroom roles.
