null Eric Cassell discusses the person as the subject of medicine from a bioethical perspective, in this year's Josep Egozcue Lectures

 


Barcelona, 28 October 2008./ What is a person? What is a sick person? What is autonomy in a sick person? These are some of the questions addressed by Professor Eric Cassell, Doctor at the New York Presbyterian Hospital and Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Cornell University, in his paper given as part of the Annual Josep Egozcue Lectures, organized by the Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation.

His talk was followed by the Presentation of the 2007–2008 Bioethics Awards given each year by the Foundation. The Research Prize was won by Professor Antonio Casado da Rocha, Researcher in the Department of Philosophy of Values and Social Anthropology at the University of the Basque Country-Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU), for his work Bioética para legos. Una introducción a la ética asistencial(Bioethics for laypeople. An introduction to the ethics of care). The Journalism Prize went to the journalists of TV3 programme, "30 Minuts," directed by Joan Salvat and Carles Guàrdia for their report Un nadó per salvar els fills (A baby to save the children) These prizes are worth 6,000 and 3,000 euros respectively.
