The Foundation has produced a video explaining the Ethics and Science Award. The prize – worth 5000, 2500, and 1000 euros – is designed to recognize educational projects that promote consideration by students of the ethical repercussions of science, research and technology.

Animation on health research with children

"Health research: Making the right decision for me", is the title of the short film produced by the Nuffield Council on Bioethics and Mosaic Films, which has now been dubbed into Spanish by Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation. The film is told from the perspective of Mia – a character who goes through some of the questions and issues that might be raised when a young person is invited to take part in clinical research. The short film includes the main points of the report "Children and clinical research: ethical issues", published by the Nuffield Council and also translated into Spanish by the Foundation.

Jesús Mosterín, specialist in philosophy of science and teacher of CSIC, was invited by Víctor Grífols and Lucas Foundation to give the opening lecture in the awards and grants ceremony, which took place in Ateneu Barcelonès on October 27th.The philosopher laid on the table the possibility of having a good death after a good life, if the end of life is faced with serenity and without taboos.

This video describes the professional career of Víctor Grífols i Lucas (1919–2015). A scientist and a businessman, he established the Foundation in 1998. His professional career was always characterized by honesty, transparency and courage in addressing the ethical dilemmas that arise with relation to pharmaceutical products. The video shows the human side of the man who was President of the Grifols group until 2001.

The Foundation organized a panel discussion as part of the Festival of Philosophy "Barcelona Pensa" (Barcelona Thinks), promoted and directed by the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Barcelona. With the participation of: Margarita Boladeras (Professor of Moral Philosophy and Politics, UB), Anna Estany (Professor of Philosophy of Science, UAB), Alberto Lledó (neurologist and secretary of the Study Group on Cognition and Behaviour, SCN) and Bernabé Robles (Head of the Neurology Service, Parc Sanitari San Joan de Déu).

Francisco J. Ayala, a biologist and university professor at Irvine University, California, was the guest speaker at the Foundation's scholarships and awards ceremony. Ayala, a specialist in evolutionary biology, is currently one of the most internationally renowned scientists.

This is the second conference delivered by Peter Singer, professor of Bioethics at Princeton University, within the VII cycle of Josep Egozcue Lectures, organized by Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation in Barcelona. After describing some traditional religous and philosophical ideas about animals, the author of Animal Liberation presented a sound ethical basis for our treatment of animals, and consider its implications for practical questions.

The Foundation organized the VII cycle of Josep Egozcue Lectures on June 25th and 26th, 2014, which considered the issue of ethics and altruism. On June 25th Peter Singer, professor of Bioethics at Princeton University, offered this lecture about effective altruisme, which is a new movement of people focused on the deceptively simple idea that we should try to do as much good as we can.
