Book presentation: 'Pedagogía de la bioética'
1 July at 6 pm
Five of the book's authors talked to students, health professionals, members of ethics committees, and representatives of wider society about the challenges posed by bioethical education.
Ediciones Lectio has just published Pedagogía de la bioética (Teaching bioethics), a book in which 18 authors, drawn from a range of disciplines, present innovative initiatives and solutions to improve and strengthen ethical approaches to healthcare.
When training health and care professionals, priority is generally given to instrumental and technical knowledge, and the need to inculcate ethical attitudes is not given proper recognition. To ensure that patients are treated with dignity, this technical knowledge has to be complemented by education that recognizes the importance of bioethics
To discuss the book, the UVic–UCC Chair of Bioethics organized a webinar with the participation of:
Lydia Feito, philosopher, lecturer in ethics at the Medical School of the Complutense University, Madrid.
Juan Pablo Beca, pediatrician. Founder of the Centre for Bioethics, at Universidad del Desarrollo Medical School, Chile.
Benjamín Herreros, doctor, director of the Francisco Vallés Institute for Clinical Ethics at the European University.
Begoña Román, philosopher. Lecturer in philosophy at the University of Barcelona.
Montse Busquets, Nurse. Member of the Professional Ethics Committee of the Official College of Nurses of Barcelona.
The session was chaired by Núria Terribas and Ester Busquets (director and coordinator of the UVic-UCC Chair of Bioethics, respectively)
