On 10 June the Fundació Victor Grifols i Lucas will present the book entitled “Bioethics: Foundations, Applications and Future Challenges” published by Routledge & CRC Press Books. This volume examines bioethics from three perspectives: its foundations, the current debates in healthcare bioethics, and the future challenges faced by this discipline.

This presentation can be followed both in person at our main offices and online. This event welcomes the book’s editors:

  • Josep-E. Baños, Vice-chancellor of the Universitat de Vic - Universitat Central de Catalunya (UVic-Ucc) and full professor of Clinical Pharmacology.
  • Nuria Terribas, Director of the Víctor Grifols i Lucas Foundation and Director of the Chair in Bioethics at the UVic-Ucc.
  • Ester Busquets, Coordinator at the UVic-Ucc Chair in Bioethics, and professor of bioethics.
  • Irene Cambra, Bioethics coordinator at UVic-Ucc Faculty of Medicine.

Geared towards students and professionals in health sciences, philosophy, psychology, and education, this book is essential reading both for those seeking an introduction to bioethics as well as for those interested in exploring recent issues in the field.

To mark its 20th anniversary, the Federació Catalana de Malalties Minoritàries (Catalan Federation of Rare Disorders, FECAMM) will hold an event at the CaixaForum on 3 June in collaboration with the Fundació Víctor Grífols i Lucas.

This celebration will provide an opportunity for families of patients with rare diseases to get toether, play games and have fun. A parallel event will also be held to showcase the Federation’s work over the past twenty years, providing an opportunity to discuss rare diseases, milestones achieved and explore future prospects.

This event programme will include a presentation detailing FECAMM’s work over the past 20 years, a tribute to the people with rare diseases it has assisted during this time, as well as other presentations on the subject and a talk exploring the topic from a bioethical perspective. In this talk given by Francesc Torralba, we will learn about how educational actions can be used to convey ethical values and the challenges this process entails. Afterwards, the floor will be open to all attendees to participate in the discussion on the topic.

Education is more than just passing on information. Education brings about personal transformation, but this is impossible without conveying ethical values first. That is why we will focus on the role of teacher and pupil and the obstacles that may hinder the process.

At the same time, discussion will also touch on which ethical values are needed in an uncertain and accelerated world such as ours.

Francesc Torralba holds a PhD in philosophy and theology and currently serves as a professor at the Ramon Llull University. He directs the Ethos Chair of Ethics and the Ramon Llull Journal of Applied Ethics.
